The rubber’s about to hit the road
Soon, Evergreen will close the books on its first calendar year, and 2021 will begin.
This is what we’ve been preparing for. Together, from the earliest days of my presidential campaign, we’ve been laying the groundwork for an all-out national mobilization to defeat the climate crisis and build a just, inclusive clean energy economy starting the moment Trump leaves office.
When I left the presidential race, I made my plans open source in hopes it would inspire bold climate action by the next president. And with those plans, some of my former staffers formed Evergreen.
Since Evergreen’s launch in May, this team and grassroots supporters like you have led the way. They’ve rolled out plans and policy memos, made waves in the press, pushed climate onto the national debate stage, urged Joe Biden to lead on bold climate action — and, best of all, watched him win on it.
Now, with Joe Biden and Kamala Harris soon to be inaugurated, the rubber’s about to hit the road. It’s time for action. That’s why I’m asking you to invest in Evergreen today.
I commend President-elect Biden for making clean energy standards, investments, and justice key components of his administration. Already, he’s making moves like creating an Office of Domestic Climate Policy and appointing climate leaders like John Kerry, Deb Haaland, and Gina McCarthy to his cabinet. He listened to climate scientists and activists throughout his campaign, and it shows.
Soon, America will have a president who campaigned on making historic investments in a just, inclusive clean energy economy. That’s a huge victory. Now, we need to keep up the momentum so we can help the Biden administration overcome the political headwinds we know they are going to face.
That’s why Evergreen’s work is so important — and why I’m humbly asking you to invest in it today.
Very truly yours,
Governor Jay Inslee
